THE LATEST
Salford City are runners up
Clinching the 2nd spot on the North West Counties Division 1 table could still give us the possibility of
qualification to the Unibind division 1. The two leagues still have'nt made their final decision which could mean promotion
to either the Unibond North or South divisions. More will be posted on this site when it is known.
Congratulations to Gary, Dave, Darren all the team and club officials for all the hard work this season!
Salford City or Newcastle Town
Who will take the 2nd spot on the finishing table? Newcastle are still 4 points behind us after their 4-1
win over Nelson, and our 3-1 win over Abbey Hey. Town's remaining matches are: Bacup Borough away, and home to Trafford
and Flixton.
If Newcastle Town are to overtake us then the following has to happen:
Newcastle Town W-W-W (9 points) & Salford City either W-D-D (5 points)
Newcastle Town W-W-D (7 points) & Salford City W-L-L or D-D-D (3 points)
Newcastle Town W-D-D (5 points) & Salford City D-L-L (1 point)
Newcastle Town W-D-L (4 points) & Salford City L-L-L (0 points)
So City need to gain at least 6 points by either winning 2 games (or Win 1, and draw 2 and increase the
goal difference by 12 points - which is not likely to happen!)
Four games left and are there still possibilities of promotion?
There are four games left to play for City as we draw to the close of another season of drama.
A win in each game is essential in order to finish at least 2nd on the NWCFL Div 1 table. Newcastle Town currently
lie 4 points behind us, meaning that one draw and a defeat for us could mean they finish 2nd. Trafford have proved they
deserve promotion; only losing 1 game thus far. Therefore, the toughest game ahead is likeley to be the last one
away to Trafford. However, the other 3 games against Abbey Hey (home), Runcorn Linnets (home), and Bacup Borough (away) will
still require the lads giving everything they can. It is still not known whether 1 or 2 teams will gain promotion to the Unibond
league, so we still have everything to play for. All the support and encouragement is now required for Gary and the squad!
Come on Ammies!
Q&A Evening
Don't forget to attend the Q&A evening at Moor Lane on Tuesday 8th April! A chance to put your questions
to the club and team management.
Moving On
Rick watson, Carl Lomax, Dean Thurston, Lee mcNally, and Andy Moore have all moved on from the club. We
would like to thank them all for their time with the club and wish them all the best in their future clubs!
Cup News
City's campaign to reach Wembley was taken away by Coventry Sphinx at Sphinx Drive. City will have to wait
until next season now to enter into the FA Vase if we are still in the VodKat NWCFL League. If City should gain promotion
to the Unibond Div 1 then we will be competing in the FA Trophy for a road to Wembley which includes clubs from as high
as the Blue Square Premiership!
However, City can now focus on run for the VodKat League Cup, having made it to the Qtr Finals after
a convincing 5-2 home win over Atherton Colls. Next up is an away fixture for the Qtr Final clash v fellow 1st Div side Winsford
Utd on Sat 16th February.
